This post is a continuation of the Dayton CX120-8 CoAxial. My intention here is to examine a similar CoAx that has the tweeter located deep in the woofer like in the Dayton. I found one that’s made for cars, an MTX Terminator 5.
There’s no mention of what the tweeter is made of but looking at it, my guess the diaphragm is Mylar. Fig 1 is the TS from DATS. It appears the tweeter is only active from 4kHz onwards.
Fig 2 is the T/S of the MTX Terminator 5 woofer from DATS. Qts is an astonishing 1.46. This is one of the highest I’ve measured. Sealed Box=27 liters | F3=75Hz | Q=1.5 Fig 3 is the bass response of the Terminator 5 in a 27 liters sealed box. This is an approximation of the internal volume of a car door. Note the high Q of 1.54 at about 125Hz. Infinite Baffle | F3=72Hz | Q=1.46 Fig 4 is what the response will look like in an infinite baffle. In other words, using this car coaxial as ceiling speakers will have the bass boosted at 125Hz. |
