Phase Linear A60

Phase Linear A60

The Phase Linear A60 was touted to be a professional amplifier for the commercial market. She appeared in about 1982, three years after the Phase Linear 300 Series II (1979). Lets’ take a closer look at her circuit to see how she differs from the rest of her predecessors.

Phase Linear A60Fig 1 – Phase Linear A60 Amplifier Schematic

Fig 1 is the circuit of the A60. The schematic is rather convoluted but having studied it carefully, the A60 has the same circuit as the Phase Linear 300 Series II. The main difference is there are now 4 pairs of output transistors as opposed to 2 pairs in the latter. I believe this is to cater to the higher power output (225W into 8Ω, 350W into 4Ω). Negative feedback is at 44dB (Pink line).

Summary

Apparently the A60 is the last of the Phase Linear power amplifier series. She is considered by some enthusiasts to be rare as not many were manufactured. Regardless, she is the same as the 300 Series II except for a higher power output.
