FaitalPro 8FE200-4 (8″ 130W RMS Pro Midbass) Review

FaitalPro 8FE200-4

The plot above is from FaitalPro. Note the y-axis is at 10dB per division. From this plot, there is a dip at 1.5kHz and after that is what appears to be cone breakup.

Fig 1 – FaitalPro 8FE200-4 Frq Response • Baffle Width = 13.5″

Fig 1 is my measurement of the 8FE200-4 in a 24 liters ported box. In my plot, the y-axis is at 5dB/division so it’ll be easier to read. The bandwidth looks similar to FaitalPro. The 8FE200-4 extends to 5kHz, making her suitable for guitar cabs. Also, the dip at approximately 1.5kHz is visible.

Fig 2 – FaitalPro 8FE200-4 Waterfall

The Waterfall plot shows the main artifact is at 3.5kHz (Fig 2). What this means is the peak at 3.5kHz seen in the frequency response plot in Fig 1 contains artifacts.

Fig 3 – FaitalPro 8FE200-4 Toneburst Energy Storage

The Toneburst plot (Fig 3) recorded a bunch of light blue slices from 2.5kHz ~ 6kHz. These are the artifacts seen in the waterfall plot but this time, the z-axis is expressed in cycles.

Fig 4 – FaitalPro 8FE200-4 Spectrogram

The Spectrogram in Fig 4 is a 2D representation of the artifacts. The y-axis is in milli-seconds (one-thousandth of a second). From 2kHz onwards, all the artifacts are below 2msec, therefore inaudible.

Fig 5 – FaitalPro 8FE200-4 Distortion

Fig 5 is the Harmonic Distortion of the 8FE200-4. Even though the 3rd harmonic is higher then the 2nd from 2kHz ~6kHz, I’m not too concerned. I plan to cross the woofer at 2kHz so it will be buried in the roll-off.

Fig 6 – FaitalPro 8FE200-4 Step

The Step response of the 8FE200-4 shows a fairly fast attack. The apex is at about 50 micro-sec.

Summary

I listened to the 8FE200-4 without any crossover to see how the RAW driver sounds like. Of the three, vocal clarity is the best with the FaitalPro 8FE200-4. Second is the Celestion TF0818 and last is the Eminence Beta 8A. The Celestion is quite close to the FaitalPro. The Eminence Beta 8A is a distant third.

Unless otherwise stated, all measurements were made in Full Space (4 pi) with the mic at 36 ins, tweeter axis. Impulse Window=5ms. No smoothing applied.
