The NE25VTS-04 is a 1″ silk dome tweeter by Peerless. Finite element analysis was used during her design. She sports a neodymium magnet and a copper cap for extended frequency response and reduced distortion. There’s also an aluminum rear chamber for extended low frequency performance as well as for heat sinking. Peerless NE25VTS-04 Frequency Response Fig 1 is the RAW frequency response of the Peerless NE25VTS-04, surface mounted onto a 20 liters bass reflex. She is virtually flat from 700Hz~15kHz except for a light dip at 3kHz.
Strangely, there are a few artifacts recorded in her Waterfall plot (Fig 2). Most prominent are the ones at about 2.2kHz. Above 7kHz, she’s “clean”.
The light blue slices in the Toneburst plot (Fig 3) are the stored energy (artifacts). I have measured other Peerless tweeters with less artifacts. I hope that this does not translate to distortion.
The Spectrogram in Fig 4 registered the artifacts at about 2.2kHz. Fortunately, they fizzled out by 4 msec. Above 3kHz, all artifacts do not last more than 1 msec. I can expect a smooth treble.
The Step response of the Peerless NE25VTS-04 is seen in Fig 5. There is no discontinuity at the rise and fall indicating the tweeter responds accurately with the input signal. There is a minute overshoot to -25dB on the return before coming to rest at 0. This is inaudible. All moving parts have inertia. That’s physics.
The Harmonic Distortion (Fig 6) is where the Peerless NE25VTS-04 shines. Her distortion is very low. 2nd harmonic is -63.8 dB while her 3rd is -64.4dB. Across her bandwidth, her 2nd harmonic dominates. Summary I am quite excited with this Peerless NE25VTS-04. I bought her in 2024 but never had the chance to test her due to my medical issues. What I find appealing is her relatively flat response and low end. I think she can be used down to 1.5kHz provided one does not play too loud. To be safe, I rather cross at 2kHz. The NE25VTS-04 will be very comfortable at this frequency. Unless otherwise stated, all measurements were made in Full Space (4 pi) with the mic at 36 ins on axis. Impulse Window=5ms. No smoothing applied. |
